Product Description

Tuff-Tape is an ideal solution for flat seams, inside corners, and areas where traditional paper drywall tape falls short. User-friendly Tuff-Tape is easier for beginners when compared to paper tapes. It can be easily cut with scissors or a utility knife, is applied with all-purpose joint compound, and will not rust. This tape has remarkable strength, notably stronger than paper and mesh tapes, and will not fuzz up when sanding. Designed for both strength and efficiency, it serves as a reliable replacement for paper tape, especially in high-humidity environments where paper tape failure is common. Installation: 1- Run your taping knife over the drywall surface to remove any high spots. If the knife hits a screw head, set the screw slightly deeper. 2- Measure the wall height and subtract 1/2”. Cut Tuff-Tape to size using scissors or a utility knife. 3- Fold Tuff-Tape in half along the center crease with the print side facing out. Most professionals prefer to cut the ends at a 45º angle. 4- For inside corners, fold the tape at less than the desired angle with the print side facing the wall. 5- Properly mix all-purpose compound according to the manufacturer’s directions. If applying Tuff-Tape over painted surfaces, add Strait-Flex’s Super-Bond to enhance adhesion. 6- Using a 4” or 5” taping knife, apply a smooth, liberal coat of all-purpose compound to the corner. 7- Press Tuff-Tape into the wet compound. Adjust if necessary to create a straight line. 8- Use the taping knife to wipe down the tape tightly, applying a bit more pressure on the outer edges. Immediately apply a light skim coat of compound over the surface of Tuff-Tape. Wipe down tight and smooth. Let it dry completely, for several hours or overnight. 9- Use the taping knife to detect and remove any high spots or dried clumps of compound. 10- With a 6” taping knife, apply the final coat of compound, feathering it beyond the previous coat. For inside corners, a very light coat is sufficient. Using a lightweight compound in this step makes sanding easier. Let it dry completely, for several hours or overnight. 11- Lightly sand the surface with 120 grit sandpaper. Tuff-Tape will not fuzz up like paper or mesh tapes.
