Product Description

The ABU adjustable post base series for high capacity applications by Simpson Strong-Tie is engineered to provide a strong and versatile connection between wood posts and existing concrete. These post bases offer enhanced adjustability, making them ideal for ensuring precise alignment during installation. Built with a heavy-duty steel design and featuring an engineered stamped sheet metal base for increased stability, the ABU series is perfect for both retrofit and new construction projects. The design also features a 1" standoff from concrete to prevent rot. Additionally, the post bases feature a ZMAX galvanized coating for superior corrosion resistance, providing long-term durability and protection against the elements. The ABU66Z model is designed for use with a 6 x 6 post. Installation: To install the ABU adjustable post base, begin by making sure that the concrete or stone surface is clean, level, and well-suited for anchoring. Place the ABU post base over the anchor bolt, allowing for adjustments to achieve the desired alignment with the wood post. Secure the base by tightening the nut on the anchor bolt, ensuring the post base is firmly attached to the concrete. Position the wood post within the base, making sure it is centered and properly aligned. Finally, fasten the post to the base using the recommended screws (typically Strong-Drive SD Connector Screws) or nails, following Simpson Strong-Tie’s guidelines for optimal performance and stability. Note these clips do not provide significant resistance against post rotation and are therefore not recommended for applications without top support such as carports or fences.
