The ABW adjustable post base series for medium capacity applications by Simpson Strong-Tie is designed to provide a reliable and secure connection between wood posts and existing concrete, offering both strength and versatility. These post bases are particularly effective in applications where adjustability is critical, allowing for precise alignment between anchors and posts during installation, making it suitable for both retrofit and new construction projects. The ABW series features a robust stamped steel construction and compatibility with various post sizes that provides long-lasting stability and increased protection against uplift to resist seismic and wind loading. The design also features a 1" standoff from concrete to prevent rot. The post bases are covered in a galvanized ZMAX coating to resist corrosion, ensuring long-lasting durability and protection against environmental elements. The ABW44Z model is designed to receive a 4x4 post. Installation: To install the ABW adjustable post base, first, prepare the concrete surface by making sure it is clean and level. Position the ABW post base over the anchor bolt, then adjust the base as needed to align it with the wood post. Tighten the nut on the anchor bolt to secure the base firmly in place. Once the base is secure, place the wood post into the base, ensuring it is centered and properly aligned. Use the appropriate screws (typically StrongDrive SD Connector Screws) or nails to fasten the post to the base. Finally, bend up the fourth side and fasten with appropriate fasteners. Note these clips do not provide significant resistance against post rotation and are therefore not recommended for applications without top support such as carports or fences.
