Product Description

The ClarkDietrich TradeReady® Spazzer® 5400 spacer bar is a pre-notched, galvanized steel spacer and bridging bar available in 16-gauge or 18-gauge options. This spacer bar is engineered to streamline the construction of exterior curtain wall framing, loadbearing walls, and high interior partitions constructed of structural studs. Traditionally, bridging in steel studs required cold-rolled channel with additional bridging clips or welding. By contrast, the Spazzer bridging bar is equipped with proprietary prepunched slots that reduce installation costs up to 40% and provide excellent torsional and lateral stud restraint. For load-bearing applications, make sure to use the Spazzer Bar Guard™, Spazzer Bar Fly Clip (SFLY), or the Spazzer Snap-In Grommet to secure the Spazzer bar. Installation (Load-Bearing Wall): To install the TradeReady Spazzer 5400 bar, insert it through the stud knockouts and rotate it 90° into position, ensuring each side engages with the knockout. For load-bearing studs, securing devices such as the Spazzer 5400 bar guard, Spazzer Bar Fly Clip (SFLY), or the Spazzer snap-in grommet are required. These require screws to keep the bar securely in place. Make sure the TradeReady Spazzer 5400 bar is installed at a maximum distance of 4' o.c. vertically or as specified in the project requirements. Do not use the bar in studs wider than 8". Installation (Non-Load-Bearing Wall): Pass the TradeReady Spazzer 5400 bar through the stud knockouts and rotate 90° into position, ensuring each side effectively engages with the knockout. When working with 20 gauge studs, additional retention is required such as the Spazzer 5400 bar guard, Spazzer Bar Fly Clip (SFLY), and the Spazzer snap-in grommet (these require screws to hold the bar in place). The TradeReady Spazzer 5400 bar should be installed at a maximum distance of 5' o.c. vertically or as specified in the project requirements. Do not use the bar in studs wider than 8". Note: The Spazzer 5400 is not designed for use with 12 ga and heavier structural studs.
