The Simpson Strong-Tie PPBF44 Post Base offers a versatile, adjustable solution for securing 4x4 posts in porch construction, supporting framing through all stages without needing temporary vertical supports. Its 12-gauge steel seat and 3-gauge base plate provide durability, while the adjustable design accommodates porch slab thicknesses from 4" to 12". Coated in Simpson's gray paint, it is tested and load rated to support the weight of most framed porches and overhangs before the post base is embedded in concrete, simplifying the construction process and subcontractor coordination. PPBF44 is intended for use with 4x4 posts. See PPBF66 for 6x6 compatibility. Installation: To install the PPBF44, secure the base plate to the concrete footing using (2) 3/16"-diameter x 1 3/4"-long Titen Turbo screws, and adjust the seat height to suit your porch slab thickness. Maintain at lease 1-1/2" distance from the edge of the concrete. After adjusting the seat height to match framing plans with consideration given for the porch slab thickness and standoff (1" minimum to 2 1/2" maximum), fasten the wood post with (12) 0.148" x 1 1/2" nails. Drill a maximum 7/8"-diameter hole into the bottom of the post if necessary, or cut all-thread rod flush to the post base seat to prevent interference. After the top and bottom of the post have been braced against lateral movement, the post may then be loaded in download or uplift. Pour the concrete porch slab up to 1" below the seat.
